The short version

Speedial collects only what it needs to help you in an emergency and to connect you with your circle. We don't sell your personal information, Speedial has no ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

What you give us

Your account: your name, email address, and phone number if you add it. Your password is stored by our account provider in a form no one can read. If you sign in with Apple or Google instead, they share your name and email address with Speedial (Apple can give a private relay address in place of your real one), and Speedial never sees your Apple or Google password. Your named circle: its name, the name you use in it, and who's in it. Messages you send in your circle's chat, and messages you report.

Your location

Speedial uses your location only while you're using it, and only with your permission. Nearby search sends your approximate location (to about 100 meters) to Speedial's server and Google to find places. Alerts near you send your location from your phone straight to the US National Weather Service and the US Geological Survey to look up official alerts. When you hold the panic button, your alert text includes a map link to where you are, and it's sent from your phone's own messaging app. During a panic alert, people in your named circle can follow your live location: Speedial's server keeps only your latest position, never a history, and erases it as soon as you're safe or someone in your circle marks you safe.

Speedial AI and photos

Speedial AI is powered by Claude, made by Anthropic. Only after you allow it, what you type to Speedial AI, and any photo you add, is sent through Speedial's server to Anthropic so it can write an answer. Speedial doesn't keep your photos. You can turn Speedial AI off in Settings at any time.

What stays on your phone

Your settings, the people your alert texts go to (their names and phone numbers), your saved places, and your alert history are stored only on your phone. Speedial's server never receives them.

Who we share it with

Only the companies that run parts of Speedial for us, and only what each needs: Supabase (our server, accounts, and database), Google (maps and nearby places), and Anthropic (Speedial AI). The National Weather Service and US Geological Survey receive your location when your phone looks up alerts. Your circle sees what you choose to share with it. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.

Children and Kid Mode

You must be 13 or older to make a Speedial account, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13 on their own. A parent or guardian can turn on Kid Mode on their own account for their child. In Kid Mode, if the child holds the panic button, their live location is shared with the parent's circle until they're safe, then erased. If the parent unlocks Family chat, the child's messages are saved like any other chat message. If the parent unlocks Ask AI, the child's questions are sent to Anthropic to be answered. The child's first name stays on the phone. A parent can lock these again, delete messages, or delete the account at any time, and can contact us to review or delete their child's information.

How long we keep it

Your account information stays until you delete your account. Chat messages stay until you delete them, delete your account, or your circle is deleted. Live location is erased when an alert ends; a record that the alert happened (the name and times, without any location) stays visible to your circle. Reported messages are kept as long as we need to review them. Counts of how often you use paid features (nearby search and Speedial AI) are kept for two days to prevent abuse.

Your choices

You can turn off location access in your phone's settings, leave your location out of alerts, turn off Speedial AI, delete your chat messages, leave your circle, and delete your account in Settings, which deletes your account information and your messages from Speedial's server. You can also erase everything Speedial saved on your phone. To see, correct, or delete your information in other ways, contact us.

Security

Each time you sign in with your email, Speedial also asks for a one-time code sent to that email, or, if you turn on two-step verification, a code from your authenticator app; our account provider keeps the secret that app uses to make codes. Information travels between your phone and Speedial's server encrypted. Access rules on the server let only you, and the people in your circle, see your circle's information. Your sign-in is stored encrypted on your phone. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your password private.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, the app will show the new version. If you have questions, or want to make a request about your information, contact us through Settings > Contact support.
